Oracle User Must-Read: Don’t Let the Mandatory Redwood UI Migration Disrupt Your Enterprise
If you are an Oracle Cloud Applications user, you need to be aware of the most significant changes coming to your enterprise systems: Oracle Redwood. Rather than just another quarterly update, Redwood is a complete reimagining of the user experience across Oracle’s entire cloud ecosystem, and by 2026, it will be mandatory for all users.
Oracle’s new Redwood design transforms what was once mechanical and utilitarian into an experience that feels intuitive, organic, and human-centered—bathed in warm, rustic tones that soften Oracle’s bold fire-engine red into a calm, ambient flame.
At Vigilant, we’ve been helping organizations navigate complex Oracle transformations for over 25 years. With Redwood migration deadlines rapidly approaching, we’re here to help you understand what’s coming and how to prepare for a smooth transition.
What is Oracle Redwood?
Oracle Redwood is Oracle’s next-generation design system and a comprehensive overhaul of the user interface across all Oracle Cloud Applications including ERP, HCM, SCM, and EPM. If you have used a consumer app lately, you know what modern UI looks like. Oracle is finally bringing that experience to enterprise software.
Unlike previous UI updates, Redwood represents a fundamental architectural shift. Built entirely on Visual Builder Studio and Oracle JET components instead of the legacy Application Development Framework (ADF). The architectural change is why your customizations are not transferable.
Redwood delivers:
- Modern, intuitive design with clean layouts and simplified navigation
- AI-powered capabilities including intelligent search, predictive insights, and contextual recommendations
- Responsive design that works seamlessly across desktop and mobile devices
- Enhanced accessibility meeting modern standards for all users
- Consistent experience across all Oracle applications, eliminating the fragmented interfaces of the past
The Mandatory Migration: Key Timelines You Need to Know
Oracle is NOT making Redwood optional. The migration is mandatory, happening on a rolling schedule through 2026. Some deadlines have already passed, and others are coming fast:
HCM (Human Capital Management)
- 25C (Q3 2025): All HCM pages (including those used by employees, managers, and HR professionals across Recruiting, Global HR, Talent, Absence, Benefits, and Payroll) must be migrated
- Complete migration of Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS) pages included

- Early 2025: Responsive Self-Service Procurement Application (RSSP) becomes mandatory
- 25C Release: Legacy Self-Service Procurement fully replaced by Redwood
EPM (Enterprise Performance Management)
- 24.07 Patch (July 2024): All non-Redwood themes were removed, with automatic updates to Redwood Experience already implemented
Financials & SCM
- Migration timelines extend into 2025-2026, with phased rollouts across modules
The bottom line: If you haven’t started planning your Redwood migration, you’re already behind schedule.
The Critical Point to Note: Your Customizations Will NOT Transfer Automatically
Here’s what many organizations don’t realize until it’s too late: Redwood is not compatible with legacy ADF customizations. If your Oracle environment includes:
- Personalized pages built with Page Composer
- Custom themes or UI extensions
- Embedded extensions using older design frameworks
- Transaction Design Studio customizations
- Legacy ADF-based workflows
None of these customizations will automatically transfer to Redwood. They’ll need to be:
- Assessed for compatibility and business value
- Reimagined for the new Redwood architecture
- Rebuilt using Visual Builder Studio and Redwood-compliant frameworks
- Tested thoroughly to ensure functionality is preserved
- Validated by end-users before go-live
A simple “lift and shift” operation or automated migration path is not possible. Organizations that have invested years tailoring their Oracle systems face significant work to maintain critical workflows and custom functionality in the new environment.
What’s Happens If You Wait Too Long?
We’ve seen what happens when organizations rush into Redwood without planning:
- Workflows break. The customizations you’ve spent years building suddenly don’t work, and operations grind to a halt.
- Customizations disappear. All those business process refinements you’ve invested in? Gone, unless you rebuild them properly.
- Users get frustrated. Drop a completely new interface on people without training, and productivity tanks.
- Compliance issues surface. Security configurations need validation in the new environment, or you risk audit failures.
- Projects stall. Compatibility issues that nobody anticipated show up late, delaying go-live for weeks or months.
- Change fatigue sets in. Employees who face abrupt system changes without preparation resist the new platform.
Oracle provides migration tools like the Redwood Customization Helper, but these tools only identify what needs attention. The tools will not do the work for you. The complexity of migrating enterprise-scale customizations requires expertise, methodology, and careful execution.
